Fuel Tank Maintenance
Optimal Fuel Tank Maintenance
Enhancing Safety and Efficiency in South Africa
Regarding fuel tank maintenance, cleaning, and safety, trust is not merely valued; it is essential. You can rely on Optimum Fuel Solutions because our team has the necessary knowledge and training to enter tanks safely, remove any materials, and clean your tanks and equipment to the required level.
All Tanks accumulate water in a certain period of time. May it be from any surrounding ingress of water or condensate water from an enclosed vessel. Optimum Fuel Solutions will remove any of these with a wide range of either suction or filtration methods.
Aboveground Tank Cleaning
Aboveground Horizontals Tanks, or Aboveground Vertical tanks, would consist of either physical man entry pressure cleaning or VacuTrawl Maintenance Cleaning.
Underground Tank Cleaning
Consist of either physical man entry pressure cleaning or VacuTrawl Maintenance Cleaning
Tank Conversions & Product Swops
- Comprehensive approved conversion program, consisting of Integrity Testing, Cleaning, Filtration, and external Third Party Laboratory analysis.
- Different grade Tank Conversions. Diesel to Petrol, Petrol to Diesel, Aviation, Solvents, Lube Oil, Paraffin etc.
Product Filtrations (3 Stage & Polishing)
Filtration method or application would be determined by the concern or deliverable. Optimum Fuel Solutions pride ourselves with various filtration methods that would confirm to the local and international standards.
Product Sampling
Fuel Quality Analysis performed in accordance with local and international standards.
Aviation (JetA1 & Afgas) Tank Cleaning
Aboveground Horizontals Tanks, or Aboveground Vertical tanks. Would consist of a specialized physical man entry pressure cleaning process.
Vacusonic Tank & Pipeline Integrity Testing
Vacuum Generated Integrity Testing methods for any above or below ground storage tanks and pipelines.
Pressure Testing (Tank & Pipeline)
Pressurized Integrity Testing methods for any above or below ground storage tanks and pipelines.
Hydrostatic Testing (Tank & Pipeline)
Hydrostatic testing begins with filling a component with liquid, often water until the pressure reaches a specified level. An amount of pressure greater than the designed working pressure of the equipment is applied and held for a set timeframe, during which the equipment is examined for leaks.
NDT Testing (Tank & Pipeline)
Nondestructive testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and technology industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage.
API653 Inspection
- An API-653 inspection is an inspection defined in the API-653 document maintained by the API (American Petroleum Institute). API-653 covers “Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction” for larger Above-ground Storage Tanks (ASTs). Two types of inspections are defined in API-653: In-service and Out-of-service.
- An In-service inspection covers everything on the outside of the tank. Basically everything on the outside of the tank can be reached from outside the tank. So in a traditional API-653 inspection this can be done while the tank is “in-service”.
- An Out-of-service inspection is what can only be done from inside the tank. Typically the inspection includes the tank floor and a visual of the inside of the tank. The out-of-service inspection is done when the tank is “out-of-service”. This inspection requires draining, cleaning, and degassing the tank.

Storage Tank Calibration and Settlement Services
(ISO 7507-1, ISO 7507-4, ISO 7507-5)
Tank calibration can help you measure and verify quantities/volumes. Calibration is the science of determining the exact true volume of a containment system corresponding to a certain measurement value.
Pump & Meter Calibrations
Flow meter calibration is the process of comparing the pre-set scale or metering of a flow meter to a standard scale of measurement and adjusting its metering to conform to the standard.
Preventative Maintenance Inspections
- Preventive maintenance involves the systematic inspection of equipment where potential problems are detected and corrected in order to prevent equipment failure before it happens.
- Preventive maintenance refers to regular, routine maintenance to help keep equipment up and running, preventing any unplanned downtime and expensive costs from unanticipated equipment failure. It requires careful planning and scheduling of maintenance on equipment before there is an actual problem as well as keeping accurate records of past inspections and servicing reports.
